The 2019 Abu Dhabi World Games was exceptional on all levels, it’s a global sport event that brought people from all walks of life to celebrate an underestimated, undervalued segment of society – athletes with intellectual disabilities. Royals, government officials, celebrities, families and communities came together to celebrate and support hundreds of beautiful souls from around the world.
I had the pleasure to work on this account on 2 occasions, back in 2017 when I worked for Mirum, and in 2019 as part of the House of Comms squad. My journey with the Special Olympics started with the official flag handover ceremony at the ADNOC HQ, when HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan received the Special Olympics flag from the Austrian Chancellor. My role involved creating social media captions pre and post the event, as well as offering live coverage during the ceremony, and taking photos and filming interviews with officials and athletes, while drafting captions and posting live on the social platforms.
In Feb 2019, I joined House of Comms and I was stationed in Abu Dhabi for slightly nearly a month to create Arabic captions in the build up to the games, and for over 7 days, we were on-site at the venue to offer live coverage of the opening ceremony and the competitions, all the way to the closing ceremony and beyond.
